The Greenbelt Humane Society is a no-kill cat shelter accepting cats and kittens from the Iowa Falls area.
The shelter began in 1996 by a group of volunteers in the local community. In 2001, after multiple fundraisers, donation drives and much community involvement, GHS purchased the building in Alden. In 2003, the shelter was licensed by the state of Iowa. In March 2018, GHS purchased the building at 319 River St., fulfilling the board's long time goal of moving the shelter to Iowa Falls.
GHS Selected for the Barlow Foundation Community Challenge!
Thank you to all that donated to the challenge on behalf of the Greenbelt Humane Society. Your donations helped us earn $20,000 for the shelter. THANK YOU!
Also, Individuals and volunteers donated time, funds and materials to prepare the building for operation. Through fundraising and grants, the board and volunteers have made GHS a homey, inviting environment for human and feline visitors alike.
Today, the Greenbelt Humane Society is staffed by unpaid volunteer workers who love and care for the shelter's felines every day of the week. Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated.
